CII and Lausanne Hospitality Consulting partner to set up Indian Culinary Institute

CII announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lausanne Hospitality Consulting (LHC) to set up an Indian Culinary Institute. LHC is the Swiss knowledge development and management advisory company of Ecole Hotelire de Lausanne and the Swiss Hotel Association.  There is also a proposal for establishing the Lausanne Hotel and Restaurant Training Center in India.The MoU also includes other initiatives like publishing of joint research papers, creating a dual education certification model and delivering specialised training programs/classes.

JKSDM has started registration for 43 Skill Courses under PMKVY

Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission (JKSDM) has begun registering candidates for 43 government sponsored training courses in 22 skill sectors. It has shortlisted 82 training partners (institutions) for conducting these skill development training courses under PMKVY for unskilled, semi-skilled and unemployed youth of J&K. 14900 candidates will be trained in the current year and around 32000 candidates in 2019-2020 in the 22 skill sectors in areas like IT, ITeS, apparels, hospitality, automotive, sports and food processing.

Punjab Government providing Job-oriented skills training to underprivileged youth

The Punjab Government started a unique initiative for enhancing employability and potential of the underprivileged youth by improving their soft and communication skills through its district-level training program. The Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) is taking the initiative to train them in skills like reading, writing and spoken English which will enable them to compete with their peers across the globe. This course has received a great response from youngsters who have enrolled themselves for this training program. The course duration is 120 hours and the fee for economically weaker sections of the society is Rs 500 whereas for other students the fee of course is Rs 1,000.

According to Survey 65% of mid-size companies prefer soft skill training over technical training

According to a survey conducted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) about 65% of mid-size companies choose to impart soft-skill training over technical training to their new employees. Comparatively, only a quarter of large-sized companies focus on soft skill training, whereas the remaining 75% prefer imparting technical skills.  This survey was carried out in partnership with market research firm Feedback Consulting to understand the corporate engineering training landscape in India and it covered over 120 large and medium sized companies across seven cities. The survey touched upon several important aspects like talent gaps, training and development initiatives, decision-making and partnerships with external agencies for training.

Association of UPVC Windows and Door Manufacturers (UWDMA) inaugurated its first training centre at ITI Bhiwadi, Rajasthan

In order to train youth in the skill sets required for Fabrication of UPVC Windows & Doors, the association of UPVC Windows and Door Manufacturers (UWDMA) inaugurated the country’s first UWDMA Skill Development Centre (U-SDC). The Rajasthan Government provided the necessary support to set up the facility at ITI Bhiwadi. This centre is one of its kind and is 100% funded by the members in the form of machines, profiles, hardware, steel, money, manpower and facilities for conducting practical sessions. The duration of the course will be for 6 months and the first batch will have more than 10 students. During the training, students will be trained on production and installation of various types of UPVC Windows and Doors. Placement will be provided in Member companies after the students graduate from the course.
