Skill development news from the government, industry and academia

SBI announces open online course: SBI has announced open online courses to develop skill sets of individuals in partnership with edX. SBI will offer three courses. The duration of each course will be between four to six weeks and applicants will be expected to spend two to three hours per week on a course.

NSDC and Microsoft to empower 1 lakh underserved young women with digital skills: Microsoft and NSDC have announced a collaboration to empower one lakh underserved young women with digital skills to enhance their employability. MSDE invites public comments on amendments in Apprentices Act, 1961: The Apprentices Act, 1961 was enacted with the objective of regulating the program of training of apprentices in the industry by utilizing the facilities available therein for imparting on-the-job training. Read more…

MSDE and NCVET unveil the new guidelines and operation manuals: MSDE in collaboration with National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) unveiled robust set of guidelines for the Awarding Bodies (AB) and Assessment Agencies (AA) over a digital conference. Read more…

Skill based UG program by HSNC university: HSNC university has launched a three year skill based UG program. The university also announced University Schools of Yoga, Performing Arts, and Applied Science with a range of UG courses.  

46% of corporations are ready to hire more apprentices: As per a report, 46% employers are now keen to hire more apprentices. Despite the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, apprentice hiring is seeing a positive sentiment across many sectors and regions. 

Newsbytes from NSNPVG Menon to be the next CEO of ESSCI: ESSCI has appointed Mr PVG  Menon as its CEO. Menon will be responsible for overseeing the operations of ESSCI and work closely with its governing Council on strategic issues related to the growth of the electronic systems design and manufacturing (ESDM) industry in India.

MoTA collaborates with AoL to establish two COEs for tribal welfare: MoTA has collaborated with Art of Living (AoL) to establish two centers of excellence for tribal welfare. The first initiative ‘Strengthening PRIs’ will be launched in 5 districts covering 30 Gram Panchayats and 150 villages of Jharkhand.

Skill development news from the states

Andhra Pradesh

Revised curriculum for engineering programs by APSCHE: APSCHE has revised the curriculum for engineering programmes. With the new curriculum, the students will be equipped with the required skills for industry. It is mandatory for students to opt for five skill courses relevant to the industry. 

Haryana

Admission date for one-year courses extended in Haryana Technical Institutions: The last date for admission for one-year courses has been extended till November 20th,2020 in Haryana Technical Institutions. The step has been taken with a view to make maximum use of the existing infrastructure in ITIs and to provide skill training in the country.

Five-day skill development program on renewable energy: A Five-day skill development training program was organized by Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) on renewable energy for administrators. The training program focused on solar energy and the economic use of Biomasses.

Karnataka

College of Fisheries to develop country’s largest aquarium complex: College of Fisheries, Mangalore has proposed to develop one of the largest aquariums in the country. The aquarium will showcase all the aquatic organisms, the flora, tribal communities and their lifestyles.

Kerala

Cochin Shipyard collaborates with Fincantieri for cooperation in shipbuilding: Cochin Shipyard has collaborated with Italy based Fincantieri for co-operation in the areas of design, shipbuilding, ship repair, marine equipment manufacturing, besides training and skill development. 

Kerala government establishes skill park to create additional skill acquisition: The government of Kerala has opened a community skill park to create additional skill acquisition. The skill park will help both employees and employers. The State government has planned 17 such skill parks. A total of nine skill parks have so far become operational and others will be launched soon.

Tamil Nadu

Admission opens for CUTN B.Voc programmes: Admission for the B.Voc programmes in Central University of TamilNadu (CUTN) has started. These job-oriented programmes are offered at an affordable price through the community colleges of the CUTN.

Add-on diploma courses by MSU to encourage skill development: Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) has approved add-on diploma and certificate courses for extra credits to promote skill development among students.
