Apprenticeship Mela

The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) will be held on January 9, 2023, across 242 districts across 28 Indian states and union territories. This event is being held as part of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s aim to boost career opportunities for India’s youth under the “Skill India Mission.”

To enable local youth with relevant opportunities to build their careers through apprenticeship training, several local businesses and organisations have been invited to participate in this apprenticeship mela. There will be a significant number of companies from various sectors participating in the event. Participating organisations will be able to meet potential apprentices on a single platform and choose applications on the spot, giving them the opportunity to enhance their livelihood and learn new skills.

Individuals interested in participating should visit https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in/ and select the nearest location to the mela.

Candidates in this apprenticeship mela must be Class 5 to Class 12 graduates with skill training certificates, ITI Diploma holders, or graduates. To the relevant locations, candidates must bring three copies of their resume, certificates, photo ID (such as an Aadhaar card or driving licence), and three passport-size photos. Those who have already registered are asked to show up at the location with all required documents. The candidates will increase their employability rate following the training sessions by obtaining certifications from the fair that are recognised by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).

Apprenticeship Mela

According to Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, “Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of a country’s economic growth and social development. It is well recognised that countries with greater and more advanced levels of skill are better able to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by the work environment. We want to create a strong and competent workforce through our apprenticeship programs that can potentially raise its own socio-economic status and improve India’s economic engine”.

He stated, “PMNAM is a platform that streamlines the meeting of apprenticeship aspirants and employers and allows the aspirants to have one-on-one interaction with the employers, providing them with the opportunity to know about the industry in which they want to train and develop a career. These fairs are of great significance to newcomers looking for the right opportunities and have multiple beneficial impacts on businesses, communities, and families. We urge applicants from all academic and professional backgrounds to take part in this fair, where they will have the opportunity to start an exciting career that will enrich their life”.

Every month on the second Monday, the nation hosts apprenticeship melas, wherein selected individuals are given a monthly stipend in accordance with government guidelines for learning new skills. Apprenticeship is regarded as the most sustainable model of skill development, and it has received significant support under the Skill India Mission.

The government wants to train 1 million youth annually through apprenticeship training, and PMNAM is being used as a platform to boost establishment and student engagement in order to accomplish this goal. Additionally, it informs youths about the range of options offered by the participating companies.
