Top highlights in skill education in India

• Tamil Nadu ITI admission 2024 has begun the online application process on its official website at nimiprojects.in/detonlineadmission2024. The Department of Employment and Training (DET) will undertake the admission process for 102 government and 3305 private vocational training centres for the 2024-25 academic session.

Updates from the MSDE, NSDC, NCVET

• NSDC and IIT Guwahati have launched the Daksh Gurukul Skill Academy to offer credit-linked programs in new-age employability skills  to the youth.
• IndiaSkills Competition 2024, the nation’s largest skill competition, commenced on May 15, 2024 and continuing until May 19, 2024, was inaugurated by MSDE with featuring over 900 candidates and 400+ industry experts. Read more…

Stakeholder collaboration – Industry, Academia and Government

• Galgotias University has partnered with Ecole Intuit Lab France to launch an innovative Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc) program in Media and Entertainment, aiming to redefine educational standards in the evolving industry.
• The Assam government plans to integrate skill courses into higher education across all streams, phasing out school-level vocational courses while introducing AI and Computer Science at the school level.
• The Andhra Pradesh government employment and training institute is accepting online applications for admission into various trades in government and private ITIs for the upcoming academic year. Interested candidates can apply via the official website iti.ap.gov.in.
• IIHM Institute of Hospitality Skills (IIHS) hosted the Confidence Day – Induction Program for hospitality skills students by aiming to bridge the skill gap and empower individuals in the hospitality industry.
• The Australia Government will realign Temporary Graduate visa streams with study levels, starting July 1, 2024, offering extended stays, work opportunities, and family inclusion, especially for Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders.
• The government announces plans to train 600,000 individuals for the ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an investment of nearly ₹20,000 crore.
• AP State Skill Development Corporation has trained 1.5 million youths in 90 job roles, providing employment to over 400,000 candidates in the last five years.
• Tata STRIVE to establish a skill development center in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) focusing on the hospitality sector.
• The AP government has decided to appoint “future skill experts” in high schools to provide hands-on training in future skills, particularly in IT, to government school students.

Skilling and Upskilling in Emerging Technologies

• Anna University to introduce a three-year Bachelor of Vocation (BVoC) course in Augment Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) at College of Engineersing, Guindy from 2024-25.
• The government is preparing a workforce of 100,000 skilled in solar panel installation and management to support its goal of powering 10 million homes with solar energy.
