As we bring out the last edition of the News Digest for 2017, we are hopeful that next year we will see many positive developments in skill development, vocational training and entrepreneurship in India. It’s heartening to have shared many snippets of key developments in this space throughout the year with news from the states, the industry, the government and the training partners.  While the year comes to a close, let’s catch up with what’s been in the news for December 2017. Here’s updating you with the next edition of the skill development News Digest 281217.

Andhra Pradesh: 1. APSSDC signs an MoU with Udacity to skill engineering students with five Nano degrees 2.APSSDC signs agreement with Dassault for skill development of France to provide training to one lakh students in three years starting from 2018-19 in aerospace, defence, automotive and ship building sectors. 3. Bharat Dynamics (BDL) extends support to skill development under CSR with Rs. 50 lakh with Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) for the project “Skill Development Training Programme” for 200 persons belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Women and EWS of the society.

Assam: 1. NSDC to focus on skill development in Northeast with in tourism and hospitality, apparel, beauty and wellness, handloom and handicrafts sectors 2. Skill Development institute has been set up by Oil India Limited in Guwahati to cater to the skill development requirement for need the youths of northeast and enhance their employability in hydrocarbon as well as other sectors. 3. Assam: With emphasis on Northeast Tata Trusts will train 1 lakh youths annually on various skills

Bihar: 1. Government Signs MoU With Yamaha India Limited for equipping youth with skills that could enhance employability in the automobile sector. 2. Bihar Skill Development Mission’s Initiative to implement Recruit-Train and Deploy model for effective skill training of youth.

Chandigarh: NSDC Training Partner Orane holds Convocation at Chandigarh for conferring Diplomas and Certificates to 600 students certified under Beauty courses.

Delhi: 1. NSDC collaborates with Arvind Limited to train 20,000 youth under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). 2. India to Get $250 Million Loan from World Bank for Skill Development Plans under ‘Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion’ (SANKALP) Project 3. IT-ITeS SSC NASSCOM signs an MoU with Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam University (AKTU) to launch Employability Enhancement Programs (EEP). 4.India enters into $125 mn agreement with World Bank to fund Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement Operation (STRIVE) Project to improve access to quality and market-driven vocational training provided in it is and apprenticeships 5. Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Ship building (CEMS) by Siemens will become a global hub for quality skill development in the port and maritime sector and provide skilled manpower for India’s ship building and repair industry. 6. Rs. 15,000 crore to be spent to train National Highway construction workers under Skill India 7. The Delhi government will set vocational training centers to promote skill-based education in retail, hospitality, travel tourism and paramedics training.

Gujarat: Cabinet approves first rail varsity project to set up India’s National Rail and Transport University (NRTU) in Vadodara in Gujarat.

Haryana: 1. Government to facilitate 15,000 youths to work as apprentices in Haryana by shortlisting them under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). 2. Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University (HVSU) Skill University will offer 40 hours training to 2500 government college students.

Jharkhand: Government to establish world-class skill development centre at Ranchi at the cost of Rs 60 crore with the help of a Singapore-based company ITE, he said.

Karnataka: Crane Owner Association of India (COAOI )signs MoU with Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council to provide skilled workforce to the companies that are a part of Infrastructure equipment skill council.

Kerala: Skill Development Institute at situated at INKEL campus Angamaly prepares students through state-of-art vocational training to its students; they are being absorbed by many companies, including the oil companies.

Maharashtra: 1. Government, Tata Trusts to collaborate for skill development of SC-ST youths through various schemes under Tata Trusts, Tata Chemicals and Tata Power. 2. Government approves private vocational training providers and institutes to issue degree in employable skills.

Odisha: AISECT to provide vocational training in IT-ITeS and Retail sectors in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Khorda and Cuttack. to 1800 students in five Odisha district in 44 government-run secondary and higher secondary schools across the state

Punjab: 1. Punjab Government to launch short-term courses on skill development to help the unemployed Punjabi youths get better placements. 2. Government promises skill development university at Anandpur Sahib; it will be named after Guru Gobind Singh at Chamkaur Sahib.

Rajasthan: 1. Japan to offer a grant worth 8.4 million Yen for the construction of a vocational training centre for poor women and youth in Rajasthan’s Baran district 2. RUJ Group to invest Rs. 500 crore in Bhartiya Skills Development University (BSDU), Jaipur by opening 36 skill schools within its campus by 2020 for Polymechanic Skills, Automotive Skills, Carpenter Skills.

Tamil Nadu: NABARD to support skill development of youth by training to about 10 lakh persons a year for three years. The bank work with Diksha, the Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing at Lalgudi .

Telangana: OYO collaborates with Telangana Government to promote skill development through hospitality ecosystem being created in the state.

West Bengal: Government to impart advanced vocational training in higher secondary schools by selecting 700 schools out of 2700 in the state of West Bengal.
