iGOT online learning platform for training COVID-19 frontliners

The Coronavirus pandemic has created a huge demand for trained professionals in healthcare and allied sectors. And, these healthcare professionals need to be trained in the shortest possible time. With lockdown, social distancing, and other precautionary measures, the best way to train oneself is through online learning. But, how do we ensure that we acquire the right knowledge and skills in specialized disciplines from reliable sources?

To meet this requirement, the Government of India has launched iGOT, an online learning platform to train the COVID-19 frontliners.

iGOT for training COVID-19 frontliners

iGOT online learning platform is launched to train and build the capacities of healthcare staff and other volunteers. They include doctors, nurses, paramedics, hygiene workers, lab technicians  Auxiliary Nursing Midwives (ANMS), central and state government officers, civil defense officials, various police organisations, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), National Service Scheme (NSS), Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), and Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) to amplify the efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

How is the iGOT portal designed?

iGOT stands for Integrated Government Online Training. Some of the courses offered on this digital platform are Basics of COVID-19, Laboratory sample collection and testing, Infection Prevention through PPE, Quarantine, and Isolation, ICU Care and Ventilation Management, Clinical Management, Infection Prevention, and Laboratory Sample Collection and Testing.

These courses are available in English and some of the courses are also available in regional languages like Hindi, Bengali, and Malayalam among others. The portal provides anytime onsite delivery of training material or module through any device including mobile phone, laptop, and desktop.

A master database of healthcare professionals and volunteers has also been made operational which provides state and district wise availability of human resources from various groups along with the contact details of nodal officers.

Data regarding a large pool of doctors including AYUSH doctors, nurses, other healthcare professionals, and the volunteer workforce have also been shared on the dashboard. This will help various State governments, district administrations, and municipal bodies to ensure training of the identified resource persons as per the job requirement through the portal on an urgent basis. This will also help the States and Union Territories to mobilise human resources from one location to another for their utilisation.

Such training also helps the COVID-19 warriors respond to the prevailing and emergent situations, by keeping themselves updated in real-time and as per the requirement.
