TASK expands its operations into Life Sciences and Healthcare skilling

The Government of Telangana has embarked on various plans to position the state as a leader in pharmaceutical industry, life sciences and biotechnology. One of the key requirements of this industry is to have skilled workforce, trained as per international standards. Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) has taken up the responsibility of skilling and enhancing the employability quotient of youth in Life Sciences and Healthcare skilling domains. This also signifies the expansion of TASK’s operations beyond IT/ITES domains.

On 10th February 2017, a valedictory ceremony was held to make the completion of two skill pilots, in collaboration with industry. A function was held at the Haritha Plaza in Hyderabad in the presence of Sri KT Rama Rao, Minister for IT and Urban Development,Sri BV Papa Rao,  Advisor to Government;  Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary; R Mr. Satish Reddy, Chairman – Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSDC); Mr. Ranjit Madan, CEO, LSSDC; Mr. Hari T, CEO, Call Health;  Mr. Sujiv Nair, CEO, TASK and other dignitaries.

Following are the details of the pilot projects in Life Sciences and Healthcare skill development:

1. Recognition for Prior Learning Pilot delivered through collaboration between TASK – LSSSDC – CII Telangana & 5 Pharma/ Life Sciences Companies – Dr Reddy’s, Granules India, Covalent Lab, Optimus Pharma and Unique Biotech. 96 QC Chemists from the above 5 Pharma/Bio manufacturing companies were a part of the RPL Pilot Batch that started in Dec 2016. These Chemists were oriented and appeared for the RPL Assessment. 76 of them cleared it and were handed over certificates confirming to National Skill Qualifications Framework Level 5.

2. Health Care Skilling Pilot delivered through collaboration between TASK and CallHealth Services Pvt Ltd. 44 unemployed youth from a batch of 50 majorly from secured jobs offers with CallHealth as Home Health Officers and Phlebotomy Officers. These youth underwent training on medical domain, soft skills, communication skills and computers. Trainees were also put through yoga and meditation classes to build their overall personality.

The Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC) is a not-for-profit, non-statutory skill certification organization which is working towards attaining the Skilled India vision for Life Sciences sector which includes Pharmaceutical, Bio-pharmaceuticals and Contract Research Sector.
