The Grameen Udyami Project All you wanted to know about

On 13th October 2022, 165 students were felicitated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) under the second phase of the Grameen Udyami project. The students received certificates in appreciation for their efforts.

The Grameen Udyami Project’s second phase was launched by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in partnership with Seva Bharti and Yuva Vikas Society on 20th August 2022. The initiative aims to multi-skill India’s young and teach them practical skills to support their livelihoods.

The initiative is in line with our esteemed Prime Minister’s vision of including tribal communities in the workforce and assuring their holistic development to make them self-sufficient and contained within their respective geographies. The Grameen Udyami initiative will provide India’s tribal population with economic empowerment. This initiative is integral to increasing tribal ownership and raising awareness of such initiatives and activities. The tribal youth need to be allowed to use their talent where it will be most helpful as their potential and talent are mostly underexplored.

To fulfil the goals of the tribal students, the registration link to Grameen Udyami Project  http://grameenudhyami.org/ was also launched through NSDC Digital.

The Grameen Udyami Project All you wanted to know about

What is Grameen Udyami Project

  • It is a one-of-a-kind multiskilling program funded by NSDC that intends to train tribal youth across India. It provides them with a steady source of income without requiring them to migrate to urban areas.
  • The central government has given a budget of Rs. 85,000 crores for this project in the tribal areas.
  • The Grameen Udyami Yojana is implemented under the Sansadiya Parisankul Yojana.
  • In phase 2, 450 tribal students in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand would receive training through this project.
  • Currently, six states, including Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, are actively engaging in the project.

Objectives of the Project

  • Enhance employment opportunities for tribal youth
  • Increase the rural/local economy
  • Minimize forced migration due to a lack of local job opportunities
  • Conserve natural resources

Work of Grameen Udyami Project

Phase-1:

  • Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat’s rural and tribal regions were mobilized to support candidates.
  • Candidates received transportation, boarding, and lodging, so they wouldn’t miss the learning opportunity due to a lack of resources.
  • In Bhopal, training for 157 candidates began in seven batches in May 2022, and on June 27th, 2022, approximately 133 candidates successfully concluded the program.

Phase-2:

  • The pilot project’s phase 2, which is being carried out by Yuva Vikas Society via Seva Bharti Kendra, was launched in Ranchi in August 2022.
  • Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) have supported NSDC, in developing labs and classrooms at Seva Bharti Kendra Skill Development Center.
