Supporting aspirations, an Award Ceremony was held for the winners of the India Skills. The winners are going to represent India in the World Skills Competition. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr Dilip Chenoy-Secretary General, FICCI, Mr Ranjan Choudhury- Head WorldSkills India, NSDC, Mr Vikrant Mohan- National President, AIAWA and Founder and Chairman, Automobile Service Providers Academy and Mr P.K. Kapse-Former MD Eicher Motors.

After the Award Ceremony, we interviewed some of the participants and their trainers, who are going to represent India this year in the World Skills Competition, Kazan. These participants are from the automotive sector. They have shared their experience in this journey so far.

IndiaSkills Competitions – Trainers from Automotive Sector

Mr. Ajay Ram from Delhi – An expert in Car Painting

“Different stages were there to reach the competition. After India Skill competition, we are now preparing for World Skills Kazan. From here onwards things have changed as it is uncertain what we are going to face in the World Skills.  We are training the participants in different types of car paint like spray painting, colour matching, and different designing. We are making them practice all the skills and we are evaluating them for any lacuna. We are training them so that they can perform better. To be a winner only skills are not enough, they need strategy and planning too. We are giving training for those aspects too so that the competitors can be content all the time.”

Mr. Dhaval Rajput, from Gujarat

“I have been elected as the deputy chief this year. I have a lot of responsibility. We are now focused on the training and preparation of Suraj for the competition. There are some changes this year so we are giving him training on every aspect. We went to Russia and China for training as well. That was good exposure for him. He is a gold medallist in India and he has to learn quite a bit for international level. Challenges are huge here. We have to be prepared in all the areas. Only skill training will not be enough we have to be prepared mentally as well as physically.”

Mr. Bhaskar Singh from Toyota Technical Training Institute

“We have our own training institutes called Toyota Technical Training institutes. There we support a student from the financially challenging background and we are providing them with automotive skills training for 3 years. I am involved in this since 2015 and we got specialized training in Japan for 6months. 2015 our participant got 4th position and we got a medal for participation. In 2017 we got the Bronze medal thanks to our training and practice. Our core focus is on the skill part. But we are also giving importance to the fitness of body and mind. At the end of the day, there will be an overall evaluation. We are working hard  for the last 6 months.”

Winners of IndiaSkills Competitions from the Automotive Sector

Tushar Phadatare from Pune, FTMA

“I joined FTMA in 2015 in Tata Motors in automobile technology. FTMA is a full time apprenticeship. My training was started there. My experience was really nice. I am skilled in fault-finding. This comes under Car technician. There are different models in fault finding like electrical, technical and many more. In Kazan, a total of 9 models is going to come under fault finding. I practice every day. I am practicing yoga on a daily basis for my peace of mind as from this year they have increased the difficulty level in the world skills competition from this year.”

Abhishek A N, from Bangalore, representing Prototype Modelling

“We are practising well for completion. I got all the information and training from Toyota. I have participated in many competitions including the regional district level and many more. I have got other country exposures too. I have participated in Brazil, Russia, and Japan. I am very happy that I am getting relevant training from Toyota and we are practising well. We have already acquired the necessary skills. Now we are fine-tuning them.”

Govind Kumar Sonkar, from UP, Kanpur, Car painting

“I have started working because of some difficulties in my family. I have started working in a garage after my 10th and learned the skill of Car Painting. I have worked in many companies like Toyota, Maruti, and Fox Wagon etc. After 4-5 years of experience, I applied for India skills. After participating in all the levels, I got the first place at the national level. Now I am working with a dealer of Maruti. I am practicing alongside my job. I have got the chance to represent my country at the national level. I will try my best to win the gold medal for my country.”

Suraj, from Utarakhand

“I was doing my ITI from a government college with the electrical trade. The competition for India skills has started and I participated in that. I got first place in all the levels. My trade is Auto Body repair. For the repair of cars after big accidents there is a machine with which we can determine where the car is damaged. I am doing my ITI now. I want to be in this automotive industry and I want to do a job in this particular industry.”
