Top 5 applications of drones

These days application of drones is a common sight in many large gatherings. They are used widely in aerial videography. But they have wide applications in many more sectors. Very soon, there will be drone delivery systems, drone security systems, drone monitoring systems etc. And with India keen on becoming a self-reliant drone expert, we will witness many more novel applications of drones in the very near future.

Anyone seeking good employment can check the drone sector. With India looking at INR 5000 crore investments and creation of 10,000 jobs, growth in the drone industry is quite promising. It will provide great employment opportunities across many skill sets. A layperson with basic school education can also enter the sector. So can an engineer or an expert with a doctorate.

Here are the top five industry applications of drones in India where the drone technology is used to ease several operations.

Agriculture

India has vast agricultural lands. Using the latest tech gadgets like drones for agriculture use in india increases farm output. Hence farmers can grow export quality produce at lower costs.

Farmers use drones to assess the health of their crops. They then use drones to spray the correct doses of fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides, etc. Drones spray them faster and in the right quantities. Hence farmers are not exposed to the risk of inhaling harmful chemicals.

Earlier this year, our prime minister, Shri. Narendra Modi virtually launched 100 Made in India Agricultural drones. The drones simultaneously flew in various places across the country. They demonstrated how useful drones can be in performing various agricultural tasks.

Defence

The most vulnerable borders that we must guard often are in extreme weather conditions. Small drones with surveillance cameras can guard our borders despite the high altitudes and cold weather conditions.

Larger drones that can carry a decent payload can be used to transport essentials to our brave soldiers.

Last year, drones were used in North-eastern India to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to areas that are not easily accessible. ICMR led this pilot project that used indigenously developed drones.

The success of such projects gives us the confidence that in an event of war, drones can be used also to plan and conduct attacks.

Top 5 applications of dronesConstruction

When building large towers and huge spaces, the human eye is insufficient to track the progress. In such cases, drones come in handy. They can check and assess the progress of large construction projects.

During the recently held Bharat Drone Mahotsav, the prime minister also said that he uses drones to check the progress of various development projects undertaken by the State Governments. This helps him take better decisions. The drones made several government initiatives possible.

Drones in construction can also help in measuring and managing inventory. We all know that good inventory management leads to lower costs.

Land Development and Planning (Geospatial Industry)

Drones provide a birds-eye view of colonies in villages and cities. They can be used to map lands with their political and legal borders more accurately. Hence, they are useful in resolving land disputes easily and fairly.

Drones are very powerful surveying tools. They can be used to survey both cities and villages. They are quite helpful in checking for encroachments and monitoring development.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj started SVAMITVA scheme in 2020. Under the scheme, the government employed drones to map the lands in villages. This helped them issue property rights to village household owners.

Mining

Drones are used to survey mining lands for stocks. Hence, they can be used to assess and manage stocks of resources and water bodies accordingly.

As already discussed in the previous points, drones are good surveying tools. They provide us real-time information and hence help in conducting precarious mining operations without any accidents. Thus, they make mining operations safer.

Drones are embedded with various sensors for different purposes. According to an announcement by Coal India Limited, drones using LiDAR sensors help them in volumetric measurements of excavation, coal stocks, settlement mapping etc.

These are the most popular application of drones in different industries. However, they need not be restricted to these industries. Drones are being used to perform various other tasks in sectors like transport, logistics, and healthcare among others. Drones can go where humans cannot.
