Virtual welding and evolving role of trainers

Welding processes and technologies have been undergoing a tremendous change over the past few years. Industries like automotive already get most of the work done through robots and automated machinery. However, industries like ship building, heavy equipment production, small parts fabrication, etc. still extensively use manual welding processes. In either of these cases training of welders, upskilling and reskilling of the workforce is significant both for the industry as well as the employees.

Even though training is crucial to every industry and manufacturing company, not every organisation invests in welder training due to high costs. This is where Virtual Reality (VR) can be used as a training tool. Through virtual welding training using simulators, organisations can improve the effectiveness of welding training.

Virtual welding training helps the students to learn and gain insights in welding and helps them become accurate welders, by learning the skill sustainably, saving the environment and resources. The virtual welding trainer also supports the trainee by showing them the ideal welding speed and position using color signals and other tools.
