Rakesh Shil, F&B Services, Steward, IL&FS Skills

Despite the hardships in life and at home, he was a happy person. He could easily make friends and he was always complimented for his communication skills. He had a natural flair for this job, he wanted to do well and go places. It was always his dream to work in five star hotels and meet people of different social standing. After dropping out of school, he worked at one of the local restaurants instead of sitting at home and not doing anything. But he soon realized the drawbacks of not finishing his education and how it reduced his job prospects. He wanted to work in the F&B Industry, but he did not have the right skills. He was not trained in English and also did not have the skills required to progress in this industry.

IL_FS_Rakesh shilIt was through his friends and community mobilization activities of IL&FS Skills that he learnt about the vocational training programmes linked to placements they offered. When he heard about their hotel tie-ups, he knew this was exactly what he always wanted. When he heard of this training programme, without wasting a minute he registered for the course and completed the two month training in F&B Services followed by a one month On the Job Training (OJT).

For his OJT, he had to travel to Indore to work in Sayaji Hotel, a five star luxury hotel. It was his first time out of Tripura and he was very excited. This was a dream come true for him. During his training at Sayaji, he was asked to serve at the IPL matches. Coming from a small town, he had never imagined he would be seeing his favourite players so closely. IL&FS Skills has helped him adjust to the new environment and workplace. With the right training and guidance from the IL&FS, he has been able to overcome my fears and weaknesses. The training has not just honed his skills to excel in his career but also taught him to be a disciplined and responsible individual. This institute offered him skills with a portion of determination and passion.  He works at Taco Bell, for a monthly remuneration of 12,060 pm.

Ram Gopal Sahu, Assistant Electrician, Entrepreneur,  IL&FS Skills

Ram Gopal Sahu has completed his class 10. He is the only child of his parents. His father could not afford to feed the family and send him to school at the same time. Once he was capable of working, he started doing odd jobs, but that was never sufficient. His life had no direction and he didn’t know how he could earn money. His village too did not have many opportunities to earn a decent living. This opportunity was a once in a lifetime chance.

IL_FS_Ram GopalIt was through a friend that he came to know about the Vedanta IL&FS Skills School in Korba. His friend told him about the skills training and the subsequent placement guarantee. He did not possess any skills before the training. They enrolled him to be trained as an Electrician. He was excited to learn the new trade in the 45 day training. On completion of the training, he was placed at Texmo Industries, manufacturers of submersible pumps, at Coimbatore. He was offered a starting salary of Rs. 8000 per month. It was his first time out of his village and away from his parents. His parents were not very keen but it was important for his career. This was his first step towards a brighter future. He joined Texmo and worked for a year. Thereafter, he joined Texmo Service Centre in Raipur. He worked for 2 years and learnt the different types of general pump winding. He grew very confident in the skills he was trained for.

He wanted to return home and find a job closer to home since his parents felt alone. So he decided to leave his job in Raipur and set-up his own business, since his village didn’t have a good electrician shop. He saw it as a great opportunity to be his own boss and at the same time be with his parents. Soon he setup his own pump and appliances workshop in his village. He now earns around Rs. 30,000 per month.

His life had no direction. This training provided him with the right skills and also gave him a job. He is now able to financially support his family and their lifestyles have improved drastically. The youth of his village are taking inspiration and at times crowd his shop to see him work on the machines. He is grateful to Vedanta IL&FS Skills School to have chosen him for the training and help him move out of poverty.
