Women from the rural sectors have been increasingly making a mark in various fields and here are some success stories of women who have been enabled by IL& FS Skill Development Corporation Ltd, to get a head-start in their careers. Let’s read on to know more about the trainees who go placed successfully and one of the trainers who has been successfully facilitating skilling and knowledge acquisition.

Chanchal Jain, Banking Executive

Chanchal Jain is from the district of Barmer in Rajasthan which is identified as one of the most backward regions of the country. She is a graduate in commerce and was keen on joining the banking industry.

ILFS_TE_CHANCHALHowever her family did not want her to leave Barmer for a job. She attended the ‘Careers in Banking’ seminar in her college, organized by IL&FS Skills and got to know of job opportunities available in the local areas. Chanchal enrolled in the Banking Programme at IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS), Barmer. During the course she was trained in banking operations. Chanchal was placed with HDFC Bank and got posted in the Barmer branch itself to work as a RTGS/NEFT executive

Her effort has not only given shape to her dreams but it has also paved the way for other girls in her community to get skilled. Currently she is earning Rs. 15,000 per month and works in the vicinity of her residence

Jyoti Lepcha, Food & Beverage Service – Assistant Steward

ILFS_TE_JYOTIJyoti was an ambitious girl who wanted to score well in her twelfth board exams and move ahead with higher education. When she was preparing for her exams, her father fell ill and got bed ridden. Jyoti could not prepare well for her exams and had to support her mother with the farm based activities and nursing her father at the hospital.

She came to know about the Skills for Jobs programme at the IL&FS Institute of Skills, (IIS) Kalimpong and enrolled herself for the Certificate Programme in Food and Beverage Services. After completing her training she got placed with Park Hyatt in Hyderabad and she is earning Rs. 12,000 per month. She is also completing her education from IGNOU along with her work

Thanks to IIS Kalimpong she is able to treat her father’s medical condition and support her family. Jyoti feels confident and happy due to her financial status today.

Meeta, Garment Checker

ILFS_TE_MEETAFor Meeta, being independent always meant having a job and being able to earn a decent living. She completed her Diploma in Apparel Cutting and Fashion Designing from Mahila Polytechnic with the hope that it will enable her to get placed and be self- sufficient. She supplemented it with a six month Computer Learning Certificate from Dehradun. She was shortlisted for many interviews, but lack of hands-on training and employability skills came in her way of impressing the employers with her skills, knowledge and ability. Her hearing disability also affected her job prospects

She enrolled herself for the placement linked training programme at the NSDC affiliated IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS) at Barnala for a garment checker course. Post completing her training, Meeta got placed with The Trident Group as a Garment Checker. Her productivity and daily output has been continuously amazing the team. She does not take her hearing disability to be a deterrent, rather an attribute which has aided her success in the professional arena. Her zeal to perform adds to the efficiency and has helped her gain confidence and speed on the machine. Professionally she has grown very fast and now dreams to reach greater heights.

Naseema Rasool, Food and Beverage Service – Assistant Steward (QSR Services)

ILFS_TE_NASEEMANaseema’s journey from the remote rural village of Anderhama in Kupwara, J&K to Café Coffee Day (CCD) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat has been full of challenges. As a member of a family of 9, she could not continue her studies due to financial constraints. Working is considered a taboo for a girl in the conservative set-up of Naseema’s neighbourhood. The IL&FS Skills team counselled Naseema and her family on the career opportunities and convinced her father to let her take up the the job opportunity . She joined CCD after completing her training in Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) trade and started earning Rs. 6000 per month. Today she is working with Globus Stores in Gujarat at a CTC of Rs. 8,250 per month.

Zinnat Khatun, Retail Sales Associate

ILFS_TE_ZINNATZinnat lost her father when she was in class twelve. Due to this, she had to drop out and start looking for jobs to support her family. Since she could not pursue higher studies, she lost all hopes of getting a good job and felt completely demotivated. Fortunately she came to know about the Skills for Jobs programme at IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS), Siliguri and was delighted to know that her fees will be covered under the Learn and Earn scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs

She cleared the selection tests and enrolled for the Certificate Programme for Retail Sales Associate. After the training, she got a job with Café Coffee day in Siliguri with a monthly salary of Rs. 5,500. Currently, she is working with Vodafone First Source as a tele-caller for the company and earning Rs. 6,500 per month

Mamta Negi, Sewing Machine Operator, Trainer

ILFS_TR_MAMTAMamta came to Badarpur in Delhi after her marriage. She was born and brought up in a small village in Uttarakhand where she studied till the 10th grade in a school in her village. Mamta started working with PEE EMPRO Exports as a sewing machine operator earning a meagre salary of Rs. 5,000 per month. She did not have any technical training or any formal qualifications

Mamta then came to know about IL&FS Institute of Skills (IIS) in Delhi where she enrolled herself being excited at the prospect of acquiring industry endorsed skills training and an industry recognized certificate. At the end of her 30 day training programme Mamta was taken on the rolls of her company and given a promotion with a raise in her salary along with other performance based incentives

Today she is working as an Assistant Trainer with the same company with all social security benefits like medical insurance and provident fund earning Rs. 12,500 per month
